Rent One honored at United Way function
The United Way of South Central Illinois honored Rent-One owners Larry and Sharon Carrico and the entire company last night for their support of United Way over the last 20 years during their victory celebration dinner in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

The Rent One family pledged over $25,000 for the 2009 campaign. In addition, Rent One Financial Manager Donna Fally was honored for her six years of service as a member of the United Way board. Rent One was the second largest single contributor at the event.

Larry Carrico estimates the 42-store Rent One company has contributed close to half a million to United Way over the last two decades and credits the success of the partnership to the high participation rate of his employees. Over 90 percent of Rent One's employees voluntarily participate in payroll deductions programs for local charity organizations like the United Way.
The Carricos then match employee contributions dollar for dollar.

"It's not that people don't want to give, it's that they're not asked," said Carrico, a former United Way president. "Our employees are given the payroll deduction option during orientation. If you don't tell anybody about these things, they don't understand them and never do anything about it. The payroll deduction makes it easier for them to take action."

Rent One is a regular contributor to the United Way, Ronald McDonald House, of St. Louis and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Illinois.
